Free Babysitting Course

This free online course has been designed for teenagers and young adults who are thinking about offering babysitting services for the first time.

Freely available from 13th July, this course is specifically designed to introduce teenagers and young adults to the world of babysitting. It will give pupils and students interested in working with children, an opportunity to learn from the world leader in early years training and education.

Created by Norland Head of Training and Consultancy, Julia Gaskell, the course offers a glimpse of what it takes to become a prestigious Norland Nanny. It covers a variety of topics from how to deal with different behaviours with special emotion coaching techniques, to the laws and rules of babysitting and how to communicate with parents.

The masterclass is the first in a series of online courses created to give everyone, everywhere a solid foundation in early years education from the comfort of their own home.

Free Summer school

The Young Associates Programme, Open School East are running a free 3 day art and design summer school on 21/22/23rd July. Across the 3 days you will explore PATTERNS – those that are designed that you see around you in fashion, graphics and materials as well as those in your life that you experience, your routines and behaviors. You will receive a free pack of art materials to use throughout the project and take part in creative making and thinking workshops through the platform zoom. You will need access to the internet on a computer/laptop or a phone.

The online summer school is for anyone aged 16 – 19 years who would like to get creative and join in with a group of like minded young people who also love being creative and making.  Workshops are led by 2 very inspiring practitioners – fashion designer and stylist  Carrie Munden and stylist, costume designer and fashion consultant Cynthia Lawrence John who are really excited to work with and who can’t wait to meet you!!!

The schedule will run 10.30 to 12.30 in the morning then 13.30 to 15.30 in the afternoon.

You will be sent a short application form and details of the schedule, more information on how sessions will run and receiving your materials. If you are unsure about onlines sessions we are very happy to talk with you about how to help feel comfortable joining in.

On line First Aid Courses

The Red Cross has put together some excellent resources to help children learn first aid at their  First aid champions website.

What could be more empowering than learning a new life-saving skill during lockdown?

You might think you need training to be in a classroom or even access to special equipment to learn first aid. Great news! Everything you need is within First aid champions. Young people can learn through our engaging films, photos and online quizzes.

There is a specific pathway for home-learning for secondary aged students to help guide you and parents through the site. Alternatively, pick and choose from a variety of activities to suit your individual needs or encourage students to learn independently.

Explore up to 17 different first aid skills with films, activities and quizzes.  Each skill has a key action to take so learners can easily remember what to do when someone needs help. There are also ideas on kindness and safety

  • Read&Write to support reading, writing and accessibility.
  • EquatIO for maths,
  • PDF reader for completing worksheets
  • Fluency Tutor to help practice reading.

Before you begin, please make sure you know your school email address and password.

You must then download these by visiting http://text.help/RLstudent . Just pick the install for the device you’re using at home – PC, Mac,Chromebook or iPad and follow the video guide to download and register with your school login details.

My Tutor Free For a limited time

MyTutor has set up a free Online School, to offer extra support during this period.

They will  be sharing daily lunchtime live group webinar tutorials, as well as short explainer videos and written resources, covering common tricky topics across a range of GCSE subjects.

These are all completely free – students just need to register using the link above and join via Zoom video link. So please do feel free to share the link with any students, parents or teachers who you think might benefit.

The planned programme over coming weeks spans Maths, English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology topics, from how to analyse poem structure to understanding chemical bonds. This week, we’ll have 13 group tutorials, including daily Maths and Physics sessions.
