Dear Parent/Carer
Re: Year 9 Guided Choices Evening
I would like to invite you and your son/daughter to the Year 9 Guided Choices Evening on Wednesday 6th February 2019 at 4pm.
The aim of this evening is for parents, carers and students to understand the guided choices process and to visit the subject stalls to gain more information on each Subject area. There will be a brief introductory talk outlining the process at 4pm in the hall and then you will be free to visit the stalls that will be located in our Sixth Form Block. These stalls will close at 6pm.
Throughout the evening and the guided choices process, students will be guided towards their best suited options. All students will have a meeting/interview once forms have been completed and returned in order to discuss their choices. Students will be given help and advice on the suitability of the courses they have chosen based upon previous attainment.
Options
Students will have the opportunity to complement the core programme of Maths, English and Science subjects with three options. However, we ask them to select six possible option subjects. Students are asked to complete the form and hand it to their Form Tutor.
Will students definitely be able to do their chosen courses?
It is important that your son/daughter selects course at the appropriate level and chooses subjects that will give them the most chance of academic success.
Availability of all courses offered depends upon sufficient numbers of students choosing the course. Should courses be under-subscribed or over-subscribed, it will be necessary for students to make alternative options. There is also a possibility of clashes with a student’s options once the whole year group has been timetabled. We will talk to students individually before any decisions are made.
Attending this evening is extremely important as it is when your son/daughter will receive the choices available to them at KS4 and you will be able to initially ask for help and guidance on the process.
I look forward to seeing you then.
Yours faithfully
Mr R. Gardner.
