Canterbury Christ Church University; Summer schools

Canterbury Christ Church University is holding their annual Summer Schools which are taking place in July and applications for these open on Monday 26th February.

The first residential event will take place between Sunday 8th and Thursday 12th July 2018 at our Canterbury campus and is for year 10 boys only and they have 50 places available. The link attached will be open from 8am Monday. https://www.canterbury.ac.uk/outreach/forms/boys-8-12-summer-school-2018.aspx

The second event will take place between Sunday 22nd and Thursday 26th July 2018 again at our Canterbury campus. This is a mixed summer school for year 10 students and we have 50 places available. The link attached will be open from 8am Monday. https://www.canterbury.ac.uk/outreach/forms/mixed-summer-school-2018.aspx

Those attending will stay in their newest accommodation at Petros Court, take part in a variety of activities both academic and socially and live like a student for the time they are with them. They will be fully supported by a large team of staff who will stay in the university accommodation also. All meals, drinks, activities and costs will be met by the university, but students will need to bring a small amount of spending money. Travel to and from the university is not provided, however, if this will be an issue they would not want it to be a reason for non-attendance so they can discuss alternative options for transport separately.

If your son or daughter is elibible for a place at the Summer school you will have been sent a letter with the details included in it.

If you have any questions, please email gipsonj@hartsdown.org.

Year 11 Half-Term Revision

Although the summer exams in May and June seem a long way away, they do have a habit of sneaking up far quicker than any of us expect! Do not leave revision until the last minute which causes sleepless nights, last minute cramming and in many cases underperformance.

February half term revision offers dedicated time for students to have a boost in their revision schedule, taking off some of the pressure later and aiming for higher grades.

The timetable can be found below:

Science: 09.30 – 11.30.

Media: 10.00-12.00

Dance: 12.00 – 14.00

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday:

Winchmore Camp: Maths and English – 08.30 – 15.00

RE: 09.30 – 11.30

Sports Science: 10.00 – 15.00

Health and Social Care and Childcare: 09.00 – 12.30

On Tuesday 6th February, Hartsdown were involved in the CAT MAD event.  It was an evening designed to celebrate Music, Art and Dance across the schools involved with the Coastal Academy Trust.  Hartsdown performed three numbers led by Mrs Richardson and Mrs Pollard.  The 6th form Performing Arts students performed  "When You're an Addams" from the Addams Family Musical, they demonstrated a high level of professionalism and received many laughs from the audience.  Hartsdown choir performed two numbers, "Wings" by Little Mix and "When I Grow Up" from Matilda.  Their performance was energetic and to a high standard.  They embodied school ethos and expectation in the way they performed and conducted themselves.  The CAT finale, "Never Forget" by Take That was led and accompanied by Hartsdown.  It saw all of the staff and students involved throughout the evening, coming together to celebrate its success.

The evening was a huge success and we are extremely proud of all of the students involved.

Year 10 Trip to CCCU

Year 10 students took part in an Art trip to Canterbury Christ Church University, all students represented Hartsdown perfectly and took part in the University tour and art workshop with real enthusiasm. The University reps commented on what a great group they were especially Kirsty's confidence and perceptive abilities with what turned out to be a very conceptual exhibition and workshop with a local artist.
